Original boat on the Mystic RiverTaken in 2008 / Canon EOS 30D / S1/1600 / F 4.0 / ISO 400 -2.3 exp / 28-70mm / 70mm focal length I'm currently traveling in New England area - Newport Rhode Island to be exact, so these first few exercises seem to have that flare.  

That being said, these are also older photos that I had when I was last up here.

So the photo to the left was taken in 2008 in Mystic Connecticut - a boat along the Mystic River.

Just looking at the photo you can see it was taken in the evening and obviously I didn't expose it correctly.

However the skyline and clouds do look awesome and I am a fan of backlit photos and the silhouette look that they typically give.   

Just my composition is a bit off on this but I do like it.

When I look closer tat the details of the photo - I Was able to capture quite a bit.  There is some sharpness and detail in it etc.  No there is something in the lower left that I don't like - that will be a simple crop.

I wanted to bring out the sharpness of the water and details on the sails.

Hence part of the reason I selected this one as my next choice when working through this.

Once brightening it up you see much more detail on the shoreline with buildings and houses.

Unfortunately again in the cleaned up photo below there is still a great deal of composition where the boat and building compete with the viewers attention.

Probably not too much I can do with that - I guess maybe blur some stuff but I don't think I want to do this as part of this post.

But by far the biggest improvement in the photo comes from the sky and clouds and the setting sun.

Its an overall warmer photo and captures that so called magic hour as they say in the evening sun.  At least I think it does.
